Fiverr is our jack-of-all-trades tool. Need a cartoon to go with your article? A logo for your website? A professional voiceover? Fiverr has it, and more. It is a freelance service website and offers a huge variety of tools at various pricing levels. Most services start off at $5, but the price rises as you grow in quality and difficulty. I’ll apologize in advance for the hours you will spend exploring it the first time you check it out.
Lynda.com When is the last time you took a course on excel? Chances are it was 15 versions of excel ago. Lynda, now owned by Linkedin, is the go-to resource for online education. You can tap their resources when you want to learn certain cool features within programs that you already use. For example, if you’re working on a chart and want to see how the latest version of excel or word can help, you can click on a portion of the latest courses, and seven minutes later you’re an expert.
Wistia.com If you share videos with clients (and want to know if they’re actually watching them), Wistia is an incredible tool. It allows you to securely share videos, and even password protect them. You just need to share the link (which is not searchable) and you can take your communications to a level beyond an email or voicemail. Videos can also be shared internally with your team and feedback collected from time-coded comments. If you want to create public videos, to be posted on your website, you can restrict embedding, and the videos are responsive to the bandwidth and device used to play them, delivering multiple versions in order to ensure the best quality with limited buffering.
Strengths Finder is an assessment that looks at individuals to determine what they are good at. Rather than natural drive, Strengths Finder is true to its name and looks at what your strengths and talents are. This is often revealing, as technical roles tend to be filled with people who are ranked high in Strategic and Analytical, and the more social or client facing roles tend to be ranked higher in Harmony and Relator. It can also reveal some traits that might affect how you want to work with the individual—those ranked high in Discipline and like routine and might not like spur of the moment projects, while those ranked low in Command might not prefer to take charge in projects or discussions.
